What Is Wegovy?

Semaglutide is the active component in Wegovy, a weight-loss injection available exclusively by prescription. To aid in weight loss, it is injected into the body once per week. How Is Wegovy Taken?

The starting dose for Wegovy is 0.25 mg once a week for the first 4 weeks. There are 5 different doses available. Your body will have a chance to adjust to the medication this way. You will increase the dosage to 0.5 mg once a week at Week 5, then 1.0 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg as needed. You continue taking 2.4 mg for the length of your therapy once you achieve that level.

The dose regimen will therefore be as follows, assuming all goes according to plan and you can handle the treatment:

Weeks 5-8: weekly 0.5 mg
Weeks 9–12: One mg each week
